Climate change is a bitter reality, and the globe is facing the consequences of the phenomena. It is imperative to strive for food security in this scenario. The camel is an amazing species along with extraordinary resilience in changing environment. There is a need to explore and share the potential and future of this creature under the climate change circumstances. The Department of Livestock Production and Management is taking one step forward to organize the International Virtual Conference in collaboration with Camel Association of Pakistan to take advantage of exploring the potential of this creature through cooperation, hard work, research & development to open new doors in the multi-value research aspect. We welcome the dignitaries, researchers, and scholars to this event.

Acknowledging Camelids

Camels, the Desert Ships or White Gold of desert have served humans in cross‐continental caravans for livelihood source from around 3000–6000 years ago. In scenario of climate change and increasing desertification, camel research is on the bloom for improving its productivity and preserving genetic pool.

Fortune of 22nd June 2009 as CAMEL DAY

June; the first month of summer with longest and hottest days of the year, in the northern hemisphere. While Camel “ship of the desert” can sustain these hot months, harsh and hostile environments easily without compromising on their productive and reproductive capabilities. Initially, 21st June was decided to be as world camel day but as it is celebrated as father day, hence the committee decided 22nd June as the world camel day in 2009. Initially, it was celebrated from 2009 till 2012 only in Baluchistan province due to having 41% of total camel population of Pakistan (1.1 million) with seven out-standing breeds from twenty breeds of Pakistan. With the passage of time this event holds a pace nationally and internationally. It was all a joint effort of camel researchers like Dr. A. Raziq Kakar, Dr. Ilse Kohler Rollefson, Prof. Dr. Yagil (Late), Dr. Abdul Salam Abax (KSA), and many others, hard to mention their efforts and names in such short time and space.

In 2013, the WCD Facebook page was launched for social media promotion, news and research collaborations. which received much appreciation and support. It all leads to celebrating WCD worldwide in 2014. In the same year, Prof. Dr. M. Younas (University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan), launched Dachi Camel Milk Brand in the university and invited famous camel lady and German scientists Dr. Ilse Kohlor Rollefson for inauguration.
